Hello, my name is: Amanda

This is so exciting.....my first blog post! I am a beginner photographer, soon to be wife, Aunt to THE most adorable little boy in the world, friend, daughter (future daughter-in-law), and sister.  I wanted to start a blog to document my progress on my photography journey. My fiance and I love to travel, spend time with family and friends, and just enjoy life!!  I hope to portray all of that through my photos (and some writing) throughout this blog.
I have always been interested in photography and just recently bought my first DSLR camera!! Yay! I have ALOT to learn and VERY far to go, but so far I am having a blast!  I'm hoping to share alot of tips that I learn through reading or on my own, mainly so I remember my own mistakes (hehe), but at the least maybe help someone else who may be making the same mistakes as me!  :)

Below Photo:  This is the first week I had my camera (Mid-August), and this is my fiance. I wanted to start practicing taking beautiful photos of people. It's okay, you can laugh....this photo is not beautiful but yes, it is a person, so at least I got one right! :)  It's not beautiful, not because of the subject (he's my fiance, of course he's beautiful, ehh hem, I mean handsome), but because I had no idea what I was doing.......no idea.

Here's what I think is wrong with the picture (my limited knowledge)
  •  I tried to make his eyes pop, which was just too much and makes him look weird
  • His skin tone looks extremely grean, which is probably due to the incorrect white balance AND too much saturation....ugh.
I do like, however, the bokeh and the composition.  I need to throw in a few positives here :)

First week of having DSLR camera (Mid-August) - my attempt at greatness! :)

The next two photos were recently taken October 20th weekend in Cape Cod, MA. I like these photos MUCH better than the first.  They show how handsome my fiance really is!  :)

Here's what I like about the pictures:
  • I think his skin tone is closer to where it should be
  • The composition is nice
  • Overall it is a nice portrait
Here's what I don't like about the pictures:
  • Although "Overall it is a nice portrait", it doesn't WOW me, and I want to get the WOW factor, which is why I am starting this blog in the first place!

I think the most I have learned during the time between these photos is trying to get a much better picture straight out of camera (SOOC....See, I am learning)  I am really focusing on how to get my exposure correct by trial and error.  The settings on the camera are definitely hard to learn and get 'just right' for the correct lighting situations.  It takes lots of patience, which I'm not that great with, but am working on! It is now getting late and if i'm going to workout in the morning, I need to get my butt to bed!  XOXO  Amanda
